Frequently asked questions

Does this apply real AES encryption?

No. This tool stamps a password label into the document so people sharing it know it's restricted. It does not encrypt page content. For true AES encryption, use a desktop tool like qpdf — we'll be adding a server-backed encrypted option soon.

Will Adobe Reader prompt for the password?

No — this is metadata-only, not real encryption. We're clear about that so you don't rely on it for sensitive content.

Is the first use really free?

Yes. Every visitor gets one free document per tool. Signed-in accounts also get one free document, then each use costs credits.
